A friend of mine hacked a parallel port interface to a few ultrasonic rangefinders. GDAM supports these devices as midi input via a plugin. Thus, we can control aspects of the sound by moving our hands through space. This interface was originally developed for the Texas Instruments Calculator Based Rangefinder:
